Our Project

The Offline Digital Library is designed to empower communities in Kenya by making literature and media easily accessible to all. Complementing traditional resources, this project provides a diverse digital collection on user-friendly, offline devices. From students to lifelong learners, anyone can explore books, stories, and educational materials without needing internet access. For children, especially those transitioning from street life, the library offers curriculum-aligned content to support literacy, learning, and critical thinking.

The Device

The Offline Digital Library is a compact, durable solution powered by a micro-PC functioning as a local server, enabling users to access content on laptops and mobile devices via Wi-Fi. While language barriers and technological limitations exist, local staff will manage content and updates, ensuring long-term sustainability. Designed to be environmentally protected and easily accessible, the library also addresses social challenges through potential translations and training programs. With careful planning and strong community engagement, this project aims to bridge the digital divide and provide Jirani with lasting access to knowledge and literacy resources.

Students and the Community

School children gain access to engaging, up-to-date learning materials, supporting their literacy development and opening doors to future opportunities.

Local communities benefit from a portable, long-lasting library, serving as a hub for knowledge and entertainment. Individuals of all ages and backgrounds can explore stories, information, and resources, fostering a culture of reading and lifelong learning.

Educators and community leaders play a key role in integrating the library into schools, public spaces, and literacy programs, ensuring its impact reaches those who need it most.

Our
Impact

A single device can unlock a world of knowledge for communities in Kenya, empowering people of all ages to read, learn, and grow. By providing offline access to a vast collection of literature and media, we eliminate the need for large physical libraries, making knowledge more accessible than ever. Our innovative local server streams content directly to users’ devices, offering a seamless, download-free experience that expands literacy and learning opportunities while preserving traditional libraries as valuable community spaces.
